The Birth and Immortality of the Mini Dress

With liberation ideologies popping up from one corner after another, the new generation of the 1950s, the post war era, came up with different ways to express themselves not only through speech but also through symbols and actions represented by revolution in music such as Rock and Roll and many others. The ideas and expressions found its way also to the fashion industry were breakthroughs like the mini dress was born.

The advent of the 1960’s coined the term “teenagers” were this age group became an integral part of the society unlike the 1950’s. Trend in fashion and clothing bend towards the teenage market were comfort became an important aspect of the attire. These new craving inevitably led to the evolution of the skirt were for the first time it was accepted to go shorter in direct contrast to the 1950’s were it was deemed taboo.

As stated, during that time, the shortening of the skirt arises from the current need or type of activity. Thus, in high energy activities like sports, shorter kinds of skirts are typically seen. The mobility it provides to the women is vital. Now accepted to the general sporting circles, fashion designers took the bold step of incorporating them to the casual woman attire, these includes John Bates, Mary Quant and Andre Courreges.

The mini dress became the talk of the town during Quant’s “mini Bazaar” and other designers like Yves St. Laurent immediately rode the band wagon. The wildfire-like popularity of the mini dress owes it to the popular TV. The shows during the 60’s attend to the tastes of women and the mini dress’ popularity crossed boundaries and oceans. The mini skirt was introduced to the United States by Rudi Gernreich.

During the 70’s, ‘maxis’ or skirts that run its full length returned. In an ironic fashion, the women who drive for changes in this era are pushing against the mini, the usual icon for women’s liberty back a decade before. The mini dress are commonly attributed to the lowering the status or perception of women towards the society.

The minis returned in full and increasing force during the 80’s. Along with constant exposure from media of various sorts, film, theatre, TV and musicals. Many musicians wear minis to draw further attention and interests, these include super stars like DeBarge, Madonna (‘Like a virgin’ video), group ‘Pepsi and Shirlie’.

The popularity of miniskirts and mini dresses continue in the boob-tube since the early 90’s to the 21st century and is still enjoying so much popularity today that transcends the film and TV industry, that it is already a common sight, like the characters of ‘Sex in the City’.

Now a staple in the skirt and dress industry, the mini while already in its golden 50’s still has a long way to go, it has become a classic and ageless attire. Now, with all the possible types, colors and styles, it continues to grow bigger. Any possible occasion has a perfect mini dress that can come with it, yes, even in wedding events. The modern trend also gets inspiration from the past as wearing jeans and leggings is always an option to more conservative ones. Sports, night outs, formal celebrations and the list goes on, for each of those, you can always count on your mini dress.

Since being born back in the 50’s, the mini will always here to stay, and even grow bigger.

The Lingerie Guide to the Universe

Lingerie does for a woman’s body what seasoning does for food. Just as the spices and herbs enhances the flavor of food, corsets, bustier, gowns, sexy bras and thongs enhances the visual effects of a woman’s body. I don’t know what primitive man first discovered adding herbs and spices to food, but, God bless him. Don’t get me wrong… I believe food can be quite tasty without spices; however, it is even better with them. Same for lingerie.

Lingerie accentuates the shape of a woman. Women are beautiful on their own, but lingerie can give that extra kick that makes them bubble with flavors never before imagined.

As I thought about that, I realized I had just made a connection between lingerie and food. How odd, what a strange connection when you think about it. Is there any real connection between lingerie and food? What about everything else in the universe? I think lingerie is linked with the entire universe, and I am out to prove it. Let’s take a look at food first.

From Lingerie to Food:

1) Lingerie

loose T-shirt made of cotton, polyester, nylon or diaphanous chiffon that can be worn like a Babydoll.

Polyester

[Synthesis / Alcoholic transesterification] ethylene glycol (doubly alcohol-terminated). Multifunctional monomers (i.e., glycerol) result in cross-linking

Glycerin

Glycerin is used in glycerin soap, in cosmetics and creams, in foods, in chemistry, and in glycerin mist.

Hence we come to food

2) Lingerie

There you go, at least three ways lingerie is linked to food. What about other things?
Well, why not start with some of the obvious ones like sex:

Lingerie to Sex:

1) Lingerie

What Causes Leg Swelling?

Leg inflammation or leg edema is a frequent medical malady. The main reason of leg inflammation should be discovered and healed. It should not be pushed aside nor be dealt with liquid pills except if the cause has been identified. There are six biggest causes of leg swelling.

The major source of leg swelling is chronic venous insufficiency. Vein disease or vein disorders happen twice as often as coronary artery disease, three times more frequently than peripheral arterial disease, or PAD, and almost five times more widespread than congestive heart failure.

Vein disease has six names:

  • Venous stasis
  • Varicose veins
  • Chronic venous insufficiency
  • Venous hypertension
  • Venous reflux disease

Lymphedema
In this health issue the veins in the legs suffer a loss of their power to transfer the used blood back up and out of the legs to the heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys to be filtered, replenished with essential nutrients and oxygen, and transported back out to the body. When this occurs, high pressure occurs in your leg veins. This high pressure results in discharging of fluid and other blood components into the leg outside of the blood vessels. When the veins are not able to effectively deliver the blood out of the legs with each heart beat, your heart pumps blood into your legs under increased and higher pressures. This can cause a generalized engorgement of the veins in your legs and accompanying this will come added leakage.

In addition, the blood in your legs ends up being rather toxic since it has not been cleaned by your kidneys. The quantity of oxygen in the blood lowers below normal. The nutrition is used up, and the waste from your legs gather in the uncirculated blood in your legs. This builds a generalized harmful state in your legs. This “toxic” blood makes your legs ill and creates inflammation. All these things result in swelling.
Swelling from veins is best early in the day and worse during the night time. When you lay down at night the blood finally comes back out of your legs and it is then filtered by your kidneys, nutrients is replenished by your intestines, your lungs add oxygen, your liver processes the blood, and your heart is able to pump the good healthy blood back out to the legs which are no longer engorged, the pressure in the legs is back to normal, and the blood is now good and healthy. By the morning your legs ought to seem at their very best and the cycle will begin again once you stand up and gravity alongside damaged venous circulation hinders the blood from returning again.

Congestive Heart Failure
The second most frequent reason for swelling to the legs is congestive heart failure. Over the years, before vein disease was understood very well, congestive heart failure was felt to be the reason behind all leg swelling until it can be medically backed differently, thus multiple patients with leg swelling some time ago and even now will take several different cardiac assessments to eliminate heart failure as a root cause. Definitely venous disease is considered the most common underlying cause and most people have a normal cardiac workup.

In the patients with congestive heart failure, the common signs or symptoms is generally difficulty of breathing. While resting many have difficulty of breathing on exertion and when they lie down flat. This is known as orthopnea and it frequently results in these people having to rest with their head elevated because once they lay totally horizontal it allows significant breathing difficulties.

Congestive heart failure is largely a consequence of one or both of two underlying health disorders; these are coronary artery disease or clots in the arteries and undiagnosed or untreated high arterial blood pressure or “hypertension”.

Kidney Failure
The third most frequent reason for leg swelling or leg edema is kidney failure. Progressed kidney failure will hinder the body’s ability to clear itself of surplus fluid resulting in fluid retention and leg swelling. It can also be correlated with undiagnosed arterial hypertension which is much more widespread in persons with diabetes.

Liver Failure
The fourth major cause of leg edema or leg swelling is liver failure. This could be a little bit more tricky, but when the liver is not operating very well the required protein in your bloodstream drops to dangerously low levels which then may cause leakage of fluid out of the vascular system and into the tissue, resulting in swelling in your legs or even abdomen. Most of these patients frequently have considerable swelling in their abdomen as well.

Thyroids
The fifth common root cause of leg edema is low thyroid or hypothyroidism. This is known as pretibial myxedema. This is also a little complicated, but once your thyroid hormones decline to an unhealthy level and is still there for a considerable amount of time your overall rate of metabolism declines very low and this contributes to swelling in your legs.

Lymphedema
Lastly, Lymphedema is where vessels often called lymphatics get damaged or blocked for many reasons, contributing to the incapability of your body to clear fluids from your legs. Many times this is as a result of lasting neglected venous insufficiency, but can even be resulting from trauma, operation, and much less likely cancer.

Regardless of the underlying cause, leg swelling is never natural, and a reason needs to be determined and dealt with accordingly. We specialize in treating vein disease using non-invasive and painless procedures such as VNUS Closure to return the health of your legs.
